All Women Ethiopian Airlines Operated Crew from Alpa 2 Omega....
The 'All Woman Functioned Flight' was an attempt by the nation to demonstrate gender equality, having previously been ranked by the United Nations as one of the worst in the world for female empowerment.
According to a press release from the airline, every position on the plane was filled by a woman, from the pilots to the cabin crew. Flight dispatchers who worked the flight from the ground were also female.
The crew traveled from Ethiopia’s capital city Addis Ababa to Bangkok, Thailand.
Just one week earlier, Air Zimbabwe pulled off a similar feat for their first time too.
Ethiopian Airlines’ Group CEO Tewolde GebreMariam described women as “the continent’s greatest untapped resources.” He promised that the company would be “fully dedicated to ensure the increase[d] number of women in decision making positions.”
Ethiopia was ranked 174 out of 184 countries in the U.N’s Gender Development Index back in 2011.
How's Australia going, you ask? Well, stats from 2014 reveal that only 4.5 per cent of Qantas’ 3784 pilots are female. The percentages at Virgin and Tigerair aren’t much better (4.9 per cent and 7.7 per cent, respectively).

Nigerian academic solves 150 year-old math problem
By This Is Africa on November 17, 2015 — A Nigerian professor has reportedly solved a maths problem that has confounded mathematicians for over 150 years, scooping himself US$1 million in the process
It’s known as the Riemann Hypothesis; a complicated mathematical problem involving the representation of complex numbers, real and complex functions on axes. We tried to understand it so as to explain it to you but we couldn’t. (The simplest explanation we could find is here).
For 156 years it remained unsolved until Dr Opeyemi Enoch of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti came along. On November 11, at the International Conference on Mathematics and Computer Science in Vienna, Austria, he reportedly presented his Proof in front of his peers 156 years to the day since the problem was first proposed by Bernhard Riemann.
According to the Vanguard, “Dr Enoch first investigated and then established the claims of Riemann. He went on to Consider and to correct the misconceptions that were communicated by Mathematicians in the past generations, thus paving way for his solutions and proofs to be established.
“He also showed how other problems of this kind can be formulated and obtained the matrix that Hilbert and Poly predicted will give these undiscovered solutions. He revealed how these solutions are applicable in cryptography, quantum information science and in quantum computers,” it stated.
Dr Enoch becomes the fourth academic to solve one of the seven Millenium Problems set out by the Clay Mathematics Institute. Solving one of these problems comes with a US$1 million reward.

SoCal Arts Incentives: Lucas shares Financial Force

Fans of the Star Wars franchise are currently furious that the upcoming film has an African American actor in a leading role. Actor John Boyega will play one of the Storm Troopers, Finn. Lupita Nyong’o will also star in the film as Maz Kanata.
In all but perfect timing, the creator of the franchise, George Lucas and his wife, investment banker, Mellody Hobson will be gifting $10 million to African American and Hispanic students of the University of Southern California (USC).
According to Shadow & Act, this is the largest donation for student support in the history of the university.
“Hispanic and African-American storytellers are underrepresented in the entertainment industry. It is Mellody’s and my privilege to provide this assistance to qualified students who want to contribute their unique experience and talent to telling their stories” said Lucas.
The endowment will be split equally between male and female students who will be known as “George Lucas Scholars” or “Mellody Hobson Scholars”. Recipients of the scholarship will begin in fall 2016.
We love this idea and we look forward to seeing the next generation
of artists that are recipients of Lucas and Hobson’s awesome gift!
Notable alums of the USC film school include: John Singleton (Boyz In The Hood, Shaft), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), and Shonda Rhimes (Scandal, How To Get Away With Murder).
